Maddy + Harry's Wedding Reception At Taronga Centre ft. Giraffes
Mosman’s Taronga Zoo has been a favourite destination for Sydney locals and international visitors – and for good reason given the views of the Sydney harbour, Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge – it’s even better for wedding photos and as a function centre for your wedding reception
Maddy + Harry needed a reception venue that would comfortable seat 140 guests on their special day. With family travelling from other parts of the world and Australia, they wanted a reception venue with a view of Sydney harbour. Taronga Centre made perfect sense.
With access to the zoo grounds and breathtaking views for their wedding guests to enjoy during drinks and canapés on the terrace outside of the Harbourview Ballroom, it was the perfect location for the last part of their wedding day celebrations.
To be honest, we don’t love the low ceiling of the function room but the floor-to-ceiling windows more than make up for it. With the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge in the background of their wedding photos, we quite like this wedding reception venue.
About Taronga Centre By Epicure
Taronga Centre offers two function rooms for your wedding reception. Maddy + Harry chose the Harbourview Ballroom. The other option is the Harbourview Terrace.
Whether you are getting married at the bird amphitheatre at Taronga Zoo, or across the corner at Bradleys Head, a Taronga Centre wedding reception makes perfect sense given its proximity of the function centre.
What Are The Best Locations For Bridal Photos?
Just around the corner from Taronga Zoo is Bradleys Head amphitheatre. Whether it is just the two of you or with your bridal party, this is one of our favourite bridal photo spots that offers Sydney harbour views. It doesn’t get more Australian that that.
But Bradleys Head is a popular destination and there may be a wedding ceremony being held there on the same day. When you hire us for your wedding photography and videography, you won’t have to worry as we know all the best spots, such as Athol Beach.
Depending on your wedding day logistics, we could head up to Chowder Bay and Clifton Gardens. Or perhaps on the way to Taronga Zoo, we can stop by Lavender Bay and Luna Park for photo opportunities.
Then there is always wedding photos within Taronga Zoo itself. The new safari enclosure should be a promising backdrop for bridal party photos. A team member of Epicure will guide you to the appropriate enclosures on the grounds of Taronga Zoo.
Getting To And From Taronga Centre
Street parking (paid) is available for your guests as well as in Taronga Zoo’s multi-level car park (enter from Bradleys Head Rd). An all-day parking rate of $18 applies at Taronga Zoo.
For your guests who will be drinking, you may advise them that taxis and Uber serve the Mosman area regularly.
Our Review of Taronga Centre as a Wedding Reception Venue ★★★★
A function centre is a function centre.
Taronga Centre by Epicure is no different but where it shines is the view it offers from its Harbourivew Ballroom and Harbourview Terrace.
As wedding photographers and videographers, having access to Taronga Zoo grounds as part of your wedding package allows for unique photo opportunities. No other Sydney wedding venue offers interaction with elephants and giraffes (although their cooperativeness is not guaranteed).
The best time of year for a Taronga Zoo wedding is probably in spring and autumn. That is, when the daylight hours are shorter meaning that you can get full advantage of sunset bridal photos before going inside to enjoy the party. Given the amount of walking that is required for bridal photos on the zoo grounds, we recommend avoiding Taronga Centre for summer weddings.

How Many Wedding Photos Will We Receive?
Maddy + Harry received 1,196 final images from their wedding day. We delivered a further 679 images from their Hindu wedding ceremony.
We don’t place a limit on the number of photos that we will take nor will we limit the number of images that we will edit and deliver to you.
We believe that quality moments that have been taken with purpose outweighs sheer volume of average images.
Ultimately, the number of images that you will receive will depend on the length of photography coverage and the scale of your wedding. From a typical 12-hour wedding day, you can expect a minimum of 800 beautiful moments captured in image form.
How Many Wedding Films Will We Receive?
Angus Porter approaches wedding videography unlike any other wedding videography vendor in the industry. In fact, we only offered wedding films because we were frustrated with what the lacklustre industry standard.
For a recent client of ours, we produced a total of thirteen (13) short films for them. Some were documentary style edits (i.e., full speeches, wedding ceremony in full) while the remainder were individual summaries for different parts of their wedding day (e.g., tea ceremony, door games, reception).
The number of wedding films that you will receive will depend on your budget.
As a rule of thumb, we will always strive to deliver at least one summary of your wedding day as well as a documentary style cut of your wedding ceremony in full.
